Joseph Harrison Saddoris Jr., 84, he left this world Thursday, February 23, 2017 to be with his soul mate Ruth who passed away in 2014.

Joe was born On May, 29, 1932 in Osceola, Iowa, to Joseph and Evelyn (Moran) Saddoris. Joe grew up in Osceola, graduating from Osceola High School in 1950, he was drafted into the Army and served his country during the Korean War. Upon his return home he met and then married the love of his life Ruth Ann Cook in Sioux Falls, SD on March 4, 1961. The couple made their home in Ames while Joe was employed as a geological surveyor for the DOT, which led to his position in the Right Of Way Design Department for 41 years.

Joe was a Hawkeye fan first and a Cyclones fan by default as they were Ruth's team. He enjoyed attending Football and Basketball games. He enjoyed golfing and bowling as a younger man, and enjoyed his coffee on Tuesday's and monthly lunches with his DOT Retirees later in life. Joe and Ruth loved to spend time together on long walks. He was proud of his Irish heritage, and shared the history of his grandparent's immigration to the United States with his family.

Joe's passion was his family, before Ruth's passing, she had a tradition of baking cookies and trips to the park with the grandchildren, Joe knew how important this was not only to the grandkids but to Ruth as well, and Joe continued to carry on her traditions with the grandchildren when she passed away.

Survivors include; daughters, LuAnn (Dalen) Jones, Susan Hinks, Patricia (Tom) Ellefson, and Connie (Dennis) Peteritis; grandchildren, Allie Jones, Taylor Hinks, and Lindy Jones Chris Berg, Dillon Ellefson; great-grandchildren, Abbi Berg and Max Berg; sister, Patty (Dick) Petersen; brother, Donald Saddoris and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; parents, Joseph and Evelyn; brothers, Gene and Ron and his sister, Francis Louise.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice – Johnston (5820 Winwood Dr., Johnston, IA 50131) or the Iowa Heart Foundation (5880 University Ave. Suite 101, West Des Moines, IA 50266).
