OBITUARY
DEATH OF W. E. NICHOLS.
W. E. Nichols, formerly of Nevada and more recently of Newton, died at the hospital in Iowa City Thursday morning after a protracted illness. The end had long appeared to be inevitable and its postponement was accomplished with great suffering for him. Death has therefore come to him as a release from pain and trouble. He had been in declining health for several years, was very ill last summer and fall at Newton, and had been in the hospital at Iowa City since early in the winter. Mrs. Nichols and his daughter Collin had been near him there, and for past few weeks Mrs. Nichols' sisters, Mesdames Brown and McGraw, has been there also. We inter that his son Harold was with him also at the end.
Mr. Nichols and family resided in Nevada for six years, from 1900 to 1906, and were identified here with the active business and social life of the community. Mr. Nichols was universally esteemed and admired and the removal of himself and family from the city was much regretted. The course of his illness has been observed with increasing solicitude and though under the conditions existing death came to him as a mercy, yet the fact that he is taken from family and friends is a matter of general sorrow. Biographical data are not a hand at this writing, but they will be published later.
Mr. Nichols' body will be brought to Nevada and will be interred in the Nevada cemetery. The funeral party will arrive Saturday morning over the Short Line at 10:32 tomorrow (Saturday), and the body will be taken directly from the depot to the cemetery. The services at the grave will be brief, prayer being offered by Rev. W. P. Payne. The funeral party will consist of Mrs. Nichols, her son and daughter, Harold and Collin, her sisters, Mesdames Brown and McGraw, and Mr. Nichols' business partner at Newton, Mr. Nollen.
