DEATH OF J. H. BENJAMIN
Jediah H. Benjamin, known locally as the father of the publishers of the Nevada Journal, died Saturday after a protracted illness at his home in Winfield, Kansas in the 75th year of his age. He had bee seriously ill for something like two months or more, and his son George A. and wife of Nevada had been with him for about seven weeks. They left him the middle of last week apparently much improved and arrived home Thursday night. Saturday night, however, a telegram came that he was dead, and O. J. Benjamin and wife left the same night to attend the funeral.
Mr. Benjamin was born in 1833 and had lived for many years in Kansas. He had during the years of his sons' residence in Nevada visited here twice; and two or three years ago he and Mrs. Benjamin spent the summer here, making many friends among Nevada people. He was twice married, and he is survived by his second wife, by daughters, Mrs. Laycock of Des Moines and Mrs. Blanchard of California, by his sons O. J. and G. A. of the Nevada Journal, and by his youngest daughter Mrs Funk of Winfield.
Much regret will be felt at Mr. Benjamin's death by those who learned to know him here, and the heartfelt sympathy will be extended to his sons of this city in their bereavement.
