Death of Ira Briley

Ira Briley, one of the earliest residents of the region about Ontario and a veteran of the 3d Iowa Infantry, died very suddenly on Sunday afternoon at his home in Boone, where he had lived for many years. He had been about in his usual good health during the forenoon but after dinner he went out in the yard and had there a stroke of apoplexy., from which he died almost instantly. He was a man of much force and in the older days was prominent figure in the western part of this county. Last August he was seen at the soldiers' reunion at Ames and was there enjoying himself to the utmost. A host of old friends in this county will learn of his death with much regret. He is buried today at Ontario.
