Roland Rockets

A sad and distressing death occurred here Tuesday evening, when Martin Nelson, aged 23 years, died from the effects of drinking carbolic acid. It seems that this young man who was the son of Tobias Nelson of Roland had during the fall been husking corn for a farmer near Gilbert. Tuesday evening he got off the train here, coming from the east supposedly Marshalltown. He walked from the train down to the Iverson grocer store came in and spoke to Mr. Iverson. He then took a bottle from his pocket, took a drink and set the bottle down on the show case. It was soon noticed that something was wrong with him, and in a short while he expired. Two theories are advanced as to as to cause of death. One of premeditated suicide, the other that he took and drank from the wrong bottle, as another, found in his pocket, contained other matter.
