OBITUARY

Death of Mrs. Martha Newkirk

Mrs. Martha Newkirk, mother of Mrs. A. A. Jackson, died at her daughter's home in this city Tuesday afternoon, and her funeral was conducted from the Jackson home Wednesday by Dr. Bunce. Mrs. Newkirk was 84 years of age and was a native of Ohio. Her husband was B. L. Newkirk, and they were early settlers of the Ballard Grove neighborhood of this county, where they located in 1862, having previously lived a year at Swede Point, now Madrid, in Boone county. They lived at Ballard Grove for more than twenty years and they migrated to Oregon, where the husband died in 1899. She came about a year ago from Oregon to spend her last days with her daughter, and did so. She leaves five grown children, of whom one of them in this county is Mrs. Mary Stratton.
