Death of an Old Resident
Mrs. Jennie Brunson, one of the long time residents of Nevada, died Saturday noon August 7, at a hospital in Aurora, Illinois. She had been seized with illness six weeks before, at her home with her daughter, Mrs. (Mabel) T. C. Hafenrichter, was taken to the hospital the week before and operated upon on Thursday, the 4th, for stoppage of the gall duct. The obstruction proved to be caused by cancer of the stomach, and she died the third day following the operation as stated. The funeral is held at Aurora this afternoon, and burial is at Aurora. Her sons, Rollin of Nevada and Luther of Des Moines are, with their sister, Mrs. Hafenrichter, in attendance upon the final rites. Other members of Mrs. Brunson's posterity are her son Will and her grandson Fred, the little son of Rollin.
It is now about five years since Mrs. Brunson went to Aurora to be with her daughter. For a while she followed her former occupation of nursing, but for the last four years she has held a position in a large department store. She made annual visits to Nevada and when here last April she seemed in excellent health.
Mrs. Brunson's maiden name was Roff.* She was reared in Rochelle, Illinois, has sisters now living in or near that city and a brother in Nebraska. She came to Story county with her husband, Sylvester Brunson, and one or two children twenty-nine years ago, and to Nevada sixteen years ago. Her age was fifty-six. Life was sometimes a very weary some road for her, but she went her way courageously and cheerfully. She was a member of the Methodist church and of the Rebecca lodge, was an esteemed, capable, helpful member of this community and leaves here many friends.
*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Rhoda Jane "Jennie" Brunson's maiden name was Ross. She was the daughter of Isaac Ross and Maria Bartholomew of Ogle County, Illinois.
