Robert Spencer Nowlin was born to Herold and Irene (Spencer) Nowlin in Ft. Madison, Iowa on March 17, 1928. His freshman year was in Ft. Madison, sophomore and junior years in St. Paul, MN, and his senior year and graduation from Ames High School in 1945.

After his first year at Iowa State University, he enlisted in the Army in July, 1946. WW II ended before he was shipped overseas. He served at the base post office in Korea until his honorable discharge in December, 1947.

He returned to ISU before finishing his journalism degree at Drake University. After graduation, he was the assistant editor of the Webster City Aberdeen Angus Journal. For the next 12 years, Bob worked for the Iowa State Highway Commission Planning Department in Ames. Then he spent 18 years at Collegiate Pacific until the plant closed. The last few years before retirement, Bob was employed by Campus Parks Sportswear in Huxley, Iowa.

Earlier in life, Bob liked flying light aircraft around the Ames area. He belonged to the Citabria Flying Club. An avid reader of history and aviation, Bob also enjoyed writing. He will be missed by his friends.

Arrangements are entrusted to Stevens Memorial Chapel.
