Darrel Lee Crain, 71, of Nevada, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Story County Medical Center in Nevada.

Darrel was born August 18, 1945 in Eldora, the son of Eldon and Luella (Coleman) Crain. He grew up on a farm near Zearing and still enjoyed helping many local farmers. Darrel graduated from NESCO High School in 1963 and attended Ellsworth Community College. On May 14, 1965, he was united in marriage to Nancy Jane Elkin in Mitchell, Nebraska. Darrel was a member of the Zearing Christian Church and had served 20 years on the Nevada Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed camping at Hickory Grove, the Iowa State Fair and for NASCAR races at the Iowa Speedway and Kansas Speedway. He also liked watching WWE wrestling. Darrel loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters.

Darrel is survived by his wife, Nancy of Nevada; his sons: Shawn (Tricia) Crain of Nevada and Cory (Cynthia) Crain of Eldridge; six granddaughters: Bailey, Aundrea, Briar, Reese, Bryn and Taylor Crain and two brothers: Rex Crain of Toledo and Samuel Crain of Ames. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother and his cocker spaniel, Lilly.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, January 11 at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 12 also at the funeral home with burial to follow at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bliss Cancer Center in memory of Darrel.
