Mrs. Humes CummingsEtta McGuire daughter of Elias and Naomi McGuire was born April 14, 1870 at Walnut Grove, Story Co., Ia. and died at her home in Colo Monday, March 10, 1919 aged 43 years 10 months and 26 days. Death was due to heart failure following flu pneumonia. At the age of four years she moved with her parents to Ames. On Nov. 26, 1889 she was united in marriage to George D. Dunning. Two children were born to this union, Mildred E., now Mrs. Eugene Cushman and Eldred M. Belle Plaine was their home from the time of their marriage till 1897 when they moved to Eagle Grove for a short time then returned to Ames. Mr. Dunning departed this life Aug. 12, 1898. On March 26, 1914 she was united in marriage to Humes Cummings and came to Colo to live. Mrs. Cummings was a woman of sterling character capable, energetic and lovable making friends of all of her acquaintances. During her residence at Belle Plaine and Eagle Grove she was a member of the Congregational church. While at Ames she attended the Christian church. On coming to Colo she united by letter with the M. E. church and was an active member in the different departments. She was teacher of the Primary class in Sunday school, president of the Ladies Aid Society and treasurer of the Womens Missionary Society. Mrs. Cummings also filled a place in local social life. She was president of the W. O. club and also held office in the Order of the Eastern Star. In the home she was a kind and loving wife and mother. She leaves to mourn their loss a loving and devoted husband, two sons Golden Cummings and Eldred Dunning of Colo, one daughter Mrs. Cushman of Des Moines, four grand children, two sisters Mrs. C. D. Reed of Des Moines and Mrs. S. L. Wood of Tacoma, Wash., one brother Walter McGuire of Detroit, Mich., one brother-in-law D. J. Dunning of Scranton and a sister-in-law Mrs. Ina Hat-er of Ames besides a host of friends. Funeral services were held in the M. E. church Wednesday at 3 p. m. conducted by her pastor, Rev. L. E. Coleman. Interment was made in the Colo cemetery. Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones.
Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Cushman, Des Moines; Mrs. Rose Watters, Des Moines; Mrs. U. G. Gilger, Lyons, Colorado; Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Hunter and son of Ames; Mrs. Ruth Cumming, Collins; Mr. and Mrs. Eli Kirkendall, Nevada; Mr. W. D. Brouhard, Nevada.
