Joyce Elaine Chentland, 78, of McCallsburg, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at Fredregill Funeral Home, in Zearing. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg, Iowa. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery in rural Radcliffe.

Joyce was born on June 17, 1938 in Albion, Iowa to Raymond and Gladys (Jurgensen) Gould. She grew up in Marshalltown, Iowa, went to the Ferguson Christian Church. She was baptized in a lake south of Ferguson, Iowa. She graduated high school in 1956. She then attended flight school in Minneapolis, Minnesota, worked at Younkers in Des Moines, Iowa, and worked at the Marshalltown Hospital in the eye surgery department.

Joyce met Darrel Chentland on a blind date. Not long after that, they were married on July 18, 1959, by L.A. Davison at the Ferguson Christian Church. They moved to McCallsburg where they raised their family. After Joyce’s children were grown she began working at the National animal Disease Lab in Ames. She worked there until her retirement in 2001.

In 1960, Joyce became a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg. She was a very active lady and enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, watching birds , especially cardinals, traveling, taking road trips, riding in the semi with Larry and Kelly, crocheting, putting jigsaw puzzles together, and watching the Saint Louis Cardinals play baseball.

Those left to cherish her loving memories are her children Kelly & Larry Moore, and Tom & JoAnn Chentland; grandchildren Nathan & Ashley Moore, Nicholas & Christa Moore, Zachary & Elizabeth Chentland, Tony & Joy McMullen, Ashley Moore, Nathan & Joi McMullen, and Cassidy Chentland; brothers Fred (Sue) Gould, and Alvin (Lorna) Gould; sister Chylena (Mack) German; and many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Darrel.

Fredregill Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Joyce and her family.
