Obituary for Albert "Al" R. Wibholm

Albert “Al” Wibholm, 84, of Colo, Iowa passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Story County Medical Center in Nevada surrounded by his loving family. A visitation will be held at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, Iowa from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2016. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, Iowa with Pastor David Burling officiating. Burial in Williams Cemetery in Williams, Iowa will be held at a later date.

Al was born on August 25, 1932 to Anders and Anna (Thomsen) Wibholm in Perry, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Williams High School in 1950. Following high school he joined the Air Force and served in England during the Korean Conflict. While there he met and married Sonja Mauer. After his discharge from the Air Force the couple moved home to the Ames area. Al began classes at Iowa State and began working at Doughboy Feeds as a purchasing agent. He continued to farm and worked several jobs over the years but settled in Colo and raised his family. On January 25, 2010 Albert married Sharon Bartine in Mission, Texas at their winter home. Al was a member at Memorial Lutheran Church, Colo Masonic Lodge, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Temple, Colo American Legion Post #139, President of the Board of the Colo Co-Op, Board Member of Story County Humans Services, Packard Car Club, Model A Club, and Farm Bureau Member. Al was very active and enjoyed; spending time with his family, pulling tractor, playing golf, fishing, collecting antique cars, collecting real and toy tractors, dancing with Sharon at the Lake Robins Ballroom in Woodward, Iowa, spending time at their Texas home, going to music jam sessions, and spending time with his dogs Taz and Pew.

Those left to cherish Al’s loving memories are his wife Sharon, of Colo, Iowa; children Evelyn Wibholm of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Robert (Erica Richards) Wibholm of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Norman (Margo) Wibholm of State Center, Iowa, Linda (Hugo) Wibholm of Switzerland, Teri (Mike) Branaman of Galena, Missouri, Lori (Darwin) Gjerde of McCallsburg, Iowa, Lisa (Dennis) Gjerde of McCallsburg, Iowa and Tamara (Raymond) Eley of Zearing, Iowa; 22 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; brothers Axel (Marg) Wibholm of Dows, Iowa, Carl (Judy) Wibholm of Dows, Iowa, John (Judy) Wibholm of Williams, Iowa, and Ole (Becky) Wibholm of Blairsburg; many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Conrad, Sonja, and sister Evelyn.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Colo First Responders in Colo, Iowa or Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, Iowa.

Fredregill Funeral Home, in Zearing, has been entrusted with the care of Al and his family.
