Luther Lund, age 90 of Jewell, Iowa, passed away on Monday, Dec 19, 2016 at Bethany Life Communities in Story City, Iowa.

Luther Lund was born on a farm south of Jewell, Iowa on January 21, 1926, the son of Ole C. and Mary (Sansgaard) Lund.

He graduated from Jewell High School. He joined the U.S. Navy and served from January 1946 to November 1947. After returning home to the family farm, he helped his parents with crops and livestock. Luther married Pauline (Hassebrock) Lund on April 15, 1951 and to this union came three children: Sue Friest of Ankeny, Joyce (Lynn) Knutson of Story City and Timothy (Julee) Lund of Jewell. They spent their entire working lives farming south of Jewell.

He was a member of the American Legion, Coop Board, Bethesda Lutheran Church, founding member of the Jewell Golf and Country Club as well as a board member, and Ellsworth Township Trustee. Luther was an avid Hawkeye fan.

Luther passed away peacefully on Monday, December 19, 2016 at Bethany Life in Story City.

Those remaining to cherish her memory include his three children; five grandchildren Amy (Luke) Lesyshen, Troy (Jessica) Knutson, Justin (Sandy) Friest, Lindsay (Justin) Hoversten, Erin (James Martin) Friest; six great-grandchildren Kendra Hoversten, Kennedy Friest, Colin Lesyshen, Nathan Friest, Alyssa Mohr and Brayden Knutson; along with many other relatives and friends.

Luther was preceded in death by his parents, wife Pauline, brothers Arthur and Sterling Lund and son-in-law Parker Friest.
