OBITUARY
CYRUS BISHOP PASSES
Mr. Cyrus Bishop, one of the oldest and early settlers of our county, departed this life at his home just south of Colo, Iowa last week, Tuesday, June 28th, 1910, at the ripe old age of 88 years, 3 months and 18 days.
Mr. Bishop was born in North Augusta, Ontario, Canada, March 10, 1827. In the year 1854 he moved to Erie county, Pennsylvania, in which place he met Mrs. Mary Shaw to whom he was joined in marriage October 9, 1855. Immediately after the marriage they moved to what was then known as Bishops Mills, Canada, where they resided until the year 1873 when they came to Story county, Iowa, and settled on the farm just south of Colo, which they selected and improved for their future home and where they have lived together ever since until last week Tuesday when the Lord separated them by taking the father to his eternal home. To Mr. and Mrs. Bishop were born seven children, three sons and four daughters, two of whom, one son and one daughter, preceded the father in the spirit world.
His funeral was held from the United Evangelical church of Colo last Rhursday afternoon, June 30, conducted by Rev. S. Skogsberg of Iowa Center, a former pastor and friend of the family, assisted by Rev. S. H. Streyfellter, pastor of the church. The services were largely attended. All his children, living, were present except Charles of St. Louis, Missouri, who was away from his home at the time his family received the message reporting his father's death and so could not get here in time.
In the death of Mr. Bishop, the community has lost one of its best citizens, his wife and children a devoted husband and father, and all a trustworthy and sincere friend.
