DEATH OF PATRICK CARMODY

Patrick Carmody, one of the long-time residents and oldest inhabitants of this county, died Monday afternoon at the residence in Nevada township of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John Maroney, at the ripe old age of 93. His wife, who is about ten years his junior, and a large family of children and grand-children survive him. Mr. Carmody was a native of County Clare, Ireland, and he emigrated thence to the United States sometime before the civil war. He lived for considerable time in Brooklyn, New York, and has two children buried there. From there he came westward as far as Illinois, and thence he came to Story county some thirty years ago, establishing the family home north of Colo. There he remained until a few years ago, when he removed to Nevada, and located in the east part of the city. The old folks got along here very well until last spring when the steadily increasing weight of years impelled them to give up their home and to go and live with their daughter, Mrs. Maroney.

Mr. Carmody was a very worthy old gentleman, frank in the expression of his opinions and possessed of the good opinion of a numerous circle of friends and acquaintance.

The funeral of the late Patrick Carmody was conducted Thursday forenoon shortly after ten o'clock from St. Patrick's church by Rev. Father Nichols. There was a very large attendance from the central and eastern parts of the county. A daughter, Mrs. Walker, and her husband came from Denver, and there were other relatives from Perry and Des Moines. Besides his widow Mr. Carmody is survived by seven of their nine children.
