Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Myrle E. Tjelta, 80, of Ames died October 25, 2016 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held Saturday November 19, 2016 at 1 pm at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City. Burial will follow in the Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth.

Myrle was born on December 28, 1935 in Hardin County, Iowa to Lars and Myrtle Tjelta. He married Anna Mae Adams McGrath on July 4, 1992. She died June 26, 2016. Mryle worked for many years as a certified Purchasing Agent for the Illinois Highway Patrol. After retiring and moving to Ames in 2000, he worked for many years at O’Donnell ACE hardware and drove a Cy Ride Bus.. He was a veteran of the US Army and a member of the Story City American Legion Post 59, the Masonic Lodge and Za-Zag-Zig Shrine.

He is survived by two daughters, Melissa Childs of Peoria, IL and Jennifer Tjelta of Springfield, IL; stepchildren, Vicki Hunckler of Aurora, IL, Marvin (Lisa) McGrath of Wagoner, OK, James (Mary Beth) McGrath of LaSalle, IL, Jeffery McGrath of Springfield, IL and Janet Patton of Edinburg, IL; two grandchildren, seven step grandchildren; a sister, Jerry (Terry) Greenfield of Story City; a sister-in-law, Fran Tjelta and three nephews, Jeff (Lisa) Tjelta, Mark (Teresa) Tjelta and Christian (Alexandra) Greenfield.

Myrle was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anna Mae and a brother, Lars Tjelta.
Soderstrum Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
