Doris Jean Meyer, age 71, of Ames and formerly of Boone, died November 6, 2016 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

A Funeral Mass will be Friday, November 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone, with Rev. Randy Schon officiating.
Following the Mass, lunch and fellowship will be held in the Ryan Gym. Doris will be cremated and burial of her cremated remains will be at a later date.

Doris (Dvorsky) Meyer, was born in Iowa City, Iowa on October 24, 1945, the daughter of Gabriel and Margaret (Cole) Dvorsky. She graduated from Solon High School in Solon, Iowa in 1963, and in 1968, graduated from Quincy University in Quincy, Illinois, with an Elementary Education Degree.
On January 11, 1969, Doris married Ronald Meyer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City.
Early in her career, she taught in Quincy, Illinois and Caruthersville, Missouri. Doris spent the remainder of her teaching career at Sacred Heart School in Boone, where she taught various elementary grades throughout 27 years.
Doris retired in 2008, she and Ron later moved to Ames.

Besides teaching, Doris was an independent sales consultant for Melaleuca Wellness Company. She enjoyed playing the piano, reading, especially inspirational literature, classical music, swimming, gardening, growing her favorite lilacs, canning apples and rhubarb, and baking. Doris also enjoyed dining out and taking walks with Ron, spending time with her Supper Club, church activities at Sacred Heart and St. Cecelia’s in Ames. Doris was the Heart of her family; she loved spending time with them, especially her grandchildren and she loved cooking and decorating during the holidays.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents, and a brother David Dvorsky. She is survived by her husband Ron of Ames; three daughters, Jean (Trevor) Anderson of Allen, Texas, Kimberly (Scott) Sitzman of Ames, and Mary (Doug) Lestina of Iowa City; six grandchildren, Kayleigh and Olivia Anderson, Danielle and Ashley Sitzman, and Brendan and Chase Lestina; a brother Jim (Jeannie) Dvorsky of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Sue Wertz of Ionia, and Peg Stritesky of Solon; nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall, on Thursday from 3 until 8 p.m. where a Vigil Service will be at 7 p.m. The family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m.

On Friday, friends may call at the funeral chapel from 8 until 10 a.m.

In memory of Doris, memorials may be directed to the family.
