JAKE HORST DIED AT ZEARING TODAY

WELL-KNOWN CITIZEN OF LINCOLN TOWNSHIP PASSED AWAY

Zearing, Dec. 4--J. S. Horst, 82, for nearly sixty years a resident of this community died at his country home at 9:00 a. m., today from complications incident to old age.

Mr. Horst, born at Leitersburg, Pennsylvania, Nov. 6, 1852, and came to Story county in 1876. He settled on a farm in Lincoln township shortly after coming here and this had been his home since.

He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Jack Leichty of Iowa City, as well as a number grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 at the Evangelical church, after which he will be laid to rest in the Zearing cemetery.

During his younger days Mr. Horst was one the most active and prominent citizens of this part of the county and was recognized as a power in politics, as well as in civic and other public affairs.

He was a man of industry, integrity and ambition and was highly honored and respected for his many sterling qualities.
