Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.
Richard Lee Hanson passed away October 31, 2016 at the Israel Family Hospice House after a valiant battle with cancer. Celebration of Life will be at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth on Saturday November 5 at 10:30. Visitation will be at the Soderstrum-Reimers Funeral Home on Friday November 4 from 5pm–7pm.
Richard was born on January 2, 1952 in Bellflower, California. He was the oldest son of Joseph and Wilma (Ziebell) Hanson. Along with his brother, Gene, he was half of the Hanson Brothers Masonry business for 41 years. Richard was a a master brick and block layer. He was extremely kind and even during his illness never complained and was always smiling and teasing the little ones of the family. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends talking about the old days. He was a wonderful father and friend. His family will keep his loving memory in their hearts. He loved playing cards with old friends and hunting and fishing with his sons and family.
We thank everyone for their prayers and love throughout Richard’s illness. We also want to give a special thank you to the nurses and staff of the Mary Greeley oncology floor for their amazing care for Richard, and to the nurses and staff at the Israel Hospice House for their compassionate support for Richard and family.
Survivors include his sons, Joshua and Garrett; siblings, Gene (Jeri) Hanson and their children Sara (Jacob) O’Tool and Samuel; Olene (Kimberly) Hanson and their children Leah, Holly (Derek) and Joey; and Paulette (Bill) Reed and their children Jason (Holly), Aaron (Andrea) and Alycia (Tim) Lentz; and many much-loved cousins and grandnieces and grandnephews.He was preceded in death by his mother, father, grandparents, aunt Mercille Johnson, uncle LaVern (Bud) Ziebell, cousin Roger Johnson and many precious dogs.
