Death of Mrs. Mills
J. A. Mills received word Thursday morning of the death of his mother at the family home at Lamar, Missouri, and he left on the forenoon train to attend the funeral. Mrs. Mills who had been in Des Moines for about a week meeting him there and going on with him. The deceased Mrs. Mills was past eighty years of age, and through she was little known here there has been an understanding that she was a woman of exceptional worth and force of character. She was twice married and was the mother John R. Hays of Norfolk, Nebraska, and J. A. Mills, the former of whom was a representative man of Nebraska, and was quite as prominent in this county twenty-five years ago as his half brother has been in the years since that time. Another of Mrs. Mills' sons is now county clerk in Barton county, Missouri, and though she has herself lived a modest life she has through her sons won notable recognition in three states. Another son in Illinois and a married daughter, we know less of, although the daughter was here for a time in the early '80s. Mrs. Mills is survived by her husband and a numerous family. She and her husband visited in Nevada sometime in early '80s., and so far as we are advised this was their only visit here. She has lived to a ripe old age, and for her death most sincere condolences will be extended here to her and his family.
