Beverly Jean McKim
May 26, 1934 - October 27, 2016Beverly J. McKim, 82, of Ames and formerly of Boulder City, Nevada died on October 27, 2016, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames after a brief battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer.
The daughter of Lee and Theo French, Beverly was born in Fernald on May 26, 1934. She graduated from Nevada High School in 1952. She was an events coordinator at Iowa State University at the time of her retirement in 1990. She married Vern Krebs on July 5, 1952. To this marriage were born three children. Vern preceded her in death in 1982. She married Weldon McKim on April 4, 1983 who preceded her in death in 1984. She married Mark McKim on February 24, 1990. Mark preceded her in death in 2006.
After retiring, Beverly lived in Seattle WA, Las Vegas NV and Boulder City NV. She also traveled through all but two states during her and Mark’s RVing, taking each of their grandchildren on an adventure. They were a member of the Rolling Boulders RV Club. She moved back to Ames in 2014 to be closer to her family. She resided at Waterford Assisted Living until her illness in mid-September 2016.
Beverly unconditionally loved life and all those around her. She and her neighbor ‘Beverly’ held a weekly movie night at Waterford serving every kind of popcorn she could find. When not at movie night, she could be found playing cards with dear friends in the Cyclone room.
Beverly was preceded in death by her three husbands, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
Survivors include her son Derek (Cathy) Krebs of Nevada; daughter Desi (Gene) Asklof of Ames; daughter Deb (Kevin) Culp of Ames; seven grandchildren Michael Krebs of San Diego CA; Christopher (Kristen) Krebs of Ankeny; Mendy Krebs of Ames; Geoffrey (Darrin Mell) Asklof of Ames; Ryan (Melissa) Asklof of Ames; Kyle Culp of Ames; Kori (Mickey) Halverson of Coralville; great-grandchildren Adam, Lily and Olivia Pendry of Ames; unborn baby boy Krebs of Ankeny; a sister Sylvia (Ernie) Otto of Missouri; sisters-in-law Ione French of Nevada and Vi Smith of Colo; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 4, with family present from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm at the Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 5, at 10:30 am at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada Iowa. Burial of the cremains will be at Evergreen Memory Gardens in Nevada.
Red was Beverly’s favorite color. Please help us celebrate the loving and courageous life she shared with so many by wearing something red.
Memorials may be directed to the family with distribution to be determined at a later date.
