Harland “Jesse” Cummings, 36, of Ames, passed away Friday, October 21, 2016, at home.
Jesse was born July 13, 1980, in Marceline, MO, to Harland “Mark” Cummings and Kimberly Lynn (Chaffee) Allgood. Jesse married Candace Lyn Shaw on September 26, 2009. He lived in Ames for the last 16 years and previously lived in Osceola, Iowa. Jesse owned Cummings Construction, which he started in the fall of 2011. Prior to his business, he worked for ACI Mechanical in Ames for 11 years.
Jesse enjoyed hunting and being outdoors and was a good story teller. His passion was truck pulling and he was a member of the MPA and the IAMO Truck Pulling Associations.
Jesse is survived by his wife, Candace Cummings; two children: Morgan Cummings and Blaine Cummings; his parents: Mark (LaRae) Cummings of Ames and Kim (Denny) Allgood of Ankeny; his brother, Colton (Michelle) Cummings of Mitchellville; his sister, Nicole (Kyle) Burright of Bondurant; his brother, Ryan (Brittney) Mathre of Madrid; his brother, Ryley (Thea) Hembry of Albany, MO; his sisters: Shawna Foddrill of Ankeny, Shelly (Bryan) Hill of Nevada and Stacy Allgood of Polk City; his grandparents: Harland and Mary Cummings of Sioux City and Jaynice Jacobs of Brookfield, MO, and Tom and Sandy Warren of Ames; his great-grandmother, Della Cummings of Grimes; his nieces and nephews: Hannah, Michael, Colton and Penny Cummings, Kaleb and Kenley Burright, Braylee and Bella Mathre, Olivia and Brea Foddrill, Emma and Brynlee Hill, Bailey, Tristen and Reese Shaw; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins. Jesse will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandson and uncle. All the nieces and nephews loved their uncle Jesse.
Jesse was preceded in death by his grandfather, Donald Jacobs; his step-grandmother, Dixie Allgood; his cousins: Jodie Gullick and Conon Kennedy; and an uncle, Dalles Jacobs.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, October 27, at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 28, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery near Luther.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Jesse.
