OBITUARY

HENRY A. COOK

Henry A. Cook, long a well known citizen of Kelley and for a time a resident of Nevada, died on Sunday, January 23, at his home in Polo, Illinois, in the 70th year of his age. He had in 1907 a paralytic stroke, on account of which he had since been unable to walk, and the news of his death brings no surprise to those of his friends in Story county who were acquainted with his condition. Short funeral services were to be held this morning at his home in Polo; but his body was to be brought to Kelley, where the funeral will be held at the church at eleven o'clock Thursday, and the interment will follow in the cemetery at Ontario.

Mr. Cook was born a Quincy in Franklin county, Pennsylvania, July 8, 1840, and died as stated at Polo, Illinois, January 23, 1910, aged 69 years, 6 months and 15 days. He enlisted from his native state in the war for the Union and served in Company K of the 87th Pennsylvania Infantry. Returning home, he was married at Benderville, Pennsylvania, in 1865 to Miss Rebecca McKim, and to this union there were born three daughters. She died in 1895 and later he married Miss Alice Ditch of Greencastle, Pennsylvania. His residence during the most active years of his life was at Kelley in this county, where he was in the grain business both for others and for himself and where also he kept a hotel. A number of years ago he came to Nevada, where he lived rather quietly, and from here he went to spend his last days at Polo. He leaves his second wife and his daughters, Mesdames Alice Williams and Belle Sutter of Kelley and Lillie Stark of Topeka, Kansas; also four sisters Mesdames M. C. Fetterhoff and D. E. Sutherland of Nevada and Belle Monn and Jennie Eiker of the old home in Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic and of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows; and he will be remembered most kindly by a host of friends, particularly in the southwest part of this county.
