From Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory obituary, Nevada and Maxwell, Story County, Iowa:

Bonnie June (Bowen) Schauper, 88, passed on from her earthly journey to meet her heavenly father and rejoin her family and friends on September 27, 2016. She was born the only daughter of Earl and Nina Bowen on November 25, 1927, in her grandma and grandpa Fish’s house on Main Street in Maxwell.

Her entire life was dedicated to her family and the service of others through her church, community and countless hours of volunteering. She lovingly cared for her parents for many years and enjoyed working at their variety store. Bonnie credits her father with instilling in her the value of giving back more than you take.

Bonnie married her high school sweetheart, Bud, in 1948 and raised two children. She loved visits from her family and enjoyed attending their many activities. Traveling was a favorite activity highlighted with a cruise through the Panama Canal for their 50th Anniversary.

She was a lifetime member of the “Church of God in Christ Jesus” and an affiliate member of the Maxwell Presbyterian Church which she considered her 2nd family. She would quote, “it is a blessing, honor and privilege to serve the Lord in any way I can” and was especially proud of her 60 years as church organist.

No one was more proud of Maxwell than the “Old Settler”. She was a member over the years of many organizations including school committees, VFW Auxiliary, Mothers Club, Iowa’s 150th Sesquicentennial, MACC Board, Maxwell Centennial, Community Pride, Alumni, Old Settlers, and church organizations. She received many local and state awards for her volunteerism.

Bonnie also loved and enjoyed the outdoors, flowers, singing in the Heartland Variety Show, providing music for special events, giving organ lessons, and attending the state basketball tournaments as a spectator and participant in 1942.

Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Jeanie (Steve) Birchmier; her grandchildren: Shain (Kelley) Birchmier, Lynden (Angie) Schauper, Shawna (Nate) Forsyth, Joy Schauper, and Nicole (Luke) Dawdy; and great- grandchildren: Dalton Birchmier, Tanner Ball, Amir, Solomon and Malcolm Clayton, Carter Dawdy and Henley Schauper. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, “Bud”, son, “Jerry” and two brothers.

Services will begin with a Memorial at 11:00 a.m., October 15, at the Maxwell Presbyterian Church and continue with a “Celebration of Life” at the Maxwell Community Center. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Maxwell Presbyterian Church and the Maxwell Community Center.

Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell is handling arrangements.
