OBITUARY

HENRY R. BOYD

Advices were received on Wednesday of the death on Tuesday of Henry R. Boyd, former sheriff of Story county. His death occurred in a hospital in Pierre, South Dakota, where it followed an operation, from which good results had been hoped. His body will be brought back for burial to his former home at Story City, where the funeral will be held on the afternoon in charge of Monday Masonic lodge of Ames, although it had at first been announced that the funeral would be held on Friday afternoon.

Mr. Boyd was one of the prominent citizens of Story county. In early years he was in the hardware business in Ames, and latter he removed to Story City, where he lived for many years. During that time he served for a time as county supervisor, and in 1899 he was nominated and elected sheriff. This election required his removal to Nevada, where he came early in 1900 and resided until last fall, when he took up a claim near Lacey, South Dakota, and moved upon it. He is survived by his wife, one son, George D., and four daughters, also his brother W. O. Boyd of Ames, with whom he was formerly associated in business there. Mr. Boyd was about 70 years of age, a native of Ireland, a veteran of the civil war and a man who won the profound esteem of the communities wherein he lived. His death occasions both surprise and regret.
