The Colo people were shocked and grieved to hear of the untimely death of Miss Margaret Niland at her home in Chicago Thursday afternoon. She was taken ill with pneumonia about a week ago. Her sister Mrs. John Morrell was with her at the time of death. Her brother in law Dr. Glann had been to see her but had returned home. Her brother John Niland left Thursday noon and he and Mrs. Morrell expected to arrive here with the remains this evening.

OBITUARY
MARGARET NILAND

Margaret Niland was born at Marshalltown, July 5, 1874. She died at Chicago, ill, Nov. 26, 1914, and was laid to rest by the side of her parents in St. Patrick's cemetery at Nevada, Nov. 28. She received a common and high school education in the schools of Colo, and Nevada, and took a teacher's course at Cedar Falls Normal. She spent the earlier part of her adult life as a teacher but soon found her life's work as a trained nurse. She was a graduate of the Chicago Post Graduate School of Nurses and the last thirteen years of her life were spent in that city following her chosen vocation. Possessed of a kind, lovable disposition, ever ready to help in the relief of the suffering of those around her, she was highly successful.

With the passing of her life there fled a character such as the Creator does not give to all his creatures. The place given to her memory in the hearts of those that ere dear to her will never be supplanted. Blessed are the dead whose memory is perpetuated by those who are left behind. To have lived long, purposeless, neutral years is nothing; to have lived a few glorious hours, to have bravely faced the infinite, to have calmly met the Master in humanity's cause is sublime.

The funeral took place Saturday from St. Mary's church Colo, where solemn high mass was offered for the repose of her soul, and fitting tribute was paid to her useful life by Father Nicholls who knew her well and knew the sacrifices she made for humanity. May she rest in peace.
