Marian Mildred Otta, 101, of McCallsburg, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at the Hubbard Care Center surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg. A visitation will be held on Wednesday prior to her service beginning at 1:00 p.m and her service will begin at 2:00 p.m., August 10, 2016 at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg with Pastor Kathy Sandmann officiating. Burial will follow in the Warren Township Cemetery in McCallsburg.
Marian was born in rural Legrand, Iowa on May 23, 1915 to Peter and Velma (Lamer) Kouba. She graduated from Legrand High School in 1933. Following high school, she attended the Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls and earned her 2-year degree. She began teaching and later earned her degree from Drake University in Des Moines. Marian married James Otta on December 23, 1936 in Marshalltown, Iowa. The couple relocated to rural McCallsburg in 1953 where they farmed at raised their family. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg, and the McCallsburg Lions Club. Marian had a great love for her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She also enjoyed fishing, quilting, picking berries, and gardening.
Those left to cherish her loving memories are her sons Larry (Shirley) Otta of rural McCallsburg, Iowa, and Jack (Rosalee) Otta of Sinai, South Dakota; grandchildren Lori (David) Bishop, Jim Otta, Teresa (Gary) Kemp, Jarrod (Betsy) Otta, and Jason (Sheri) Otta; great-grandchildren Emily (Matt) Banks, Ashley (Joe) Yakymi, Erika (Owen) Gossett, Jacob Otta, Madelynne Otta, Jaelin Otta, Jordan Otta, Joey Otta, Jesse (Kelsey) Otta, Ricky Otta, Marty Kemp, Sophia Kemp, and Joey Kemp; step great-grandchildren Emilee (Joe) Stacy, Laura (Justin Ruzicka) Bishop,and Brian Bishop; great-great-grandchildren Ryan, Jenna, Drew, and Julie Banks, Emelia and Nora Gossett, Caleb Otta; step great-great-grandchildren Rylee, Mason, Melia Yakymi, Karma and Charysma Stacy, and Kaleb Bishop; sisters Frances Howard of rural Green Mountain, Iowa, and Evelyn Bruster of Legrand, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband James, brothers Wayne, Carl, and George Kouba, sister-in-laws Vivian and Joyce Kouba, Clara Anderson, Lorieta Dobson, Eldora Lewis; brother-in-laws Carl Dobson, Garth Anderson, Dallas Lewis, Ross Howard, Laurence Otta, and Bill Bruster; and an infant nephew.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Hubbard Care Center or Bethany Lutheran Church.
Fredregill Funeral Home, in Zearing, has been entrusted with the care of Marian and her family.
