Mrs. W. Y. Sellers
We take the following obituary notice from the Colo Banner. Mrs. Sellers being the mother John Sellers until recently a resident of Ames. Mrs. Julia Sellers was born May 12, 1829 in North Carolina and died in Colo Aug 21, 1905 aged 76 years, 3 months and 29 days. She was married in 1849 to Basil Butler who lied but 5 years. To this union two children were born, one son and one daughter, who died after growing to manhood and womanhood. In the fall of 1861 she was united in marriage to William Sellers. Six children were born to this union, of whom but three survive her--John W. of Nevada, Mrs. Florence Shaw and Mrs. Jennie Dayton of Colo. Besides these she leaves a husband and one sister in Illinois. In her early life deceased became an earnest Christian and in this faith her life was spent.
Funeral services ere conducted by her pastor, Rev. Boreman of the Methodist church, Monday afternoon at 2:30 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. B. F. Shaw where she had lived the past four years. A large assembly of people were present to pay their last tribute of respect to one whom they had known for many years and the floral offerings which literally covered all available space in the parlor testified to the esteem in which she had been held. Deceased had been an invalid for a number of years but until a paralytic stroke, which she suffered about three years ago, was able to realize the loving care given her by her two daughters and husband. Since that time she has bee been a helpless invalid. During these years of suffering and helplessness Mrs. Shaw gave her the most constant and loving care any daughter could give. Day and night, month after month her care never failed.
The relatives from a distance in attendance at the funeral were: Thos. Sellers of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. John Sellers of Nevada, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Hadley of Elwell, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Livingston (the latter being a sister of W. Y. Sellers.)
