From the Roland Record, Thursday, April 24, 1919.
We are again called upon to report the passing away of one of the early settlers. This time it is Mrs. Ole Wierson who died Sunday evening, April 13, following a third attack of paralysis, dying the ninth day after the attack, at the.age of 89 years, 3 months, 26 days.
Mrs. Wierson was born in Skaanevig, Bergen's parish, Norway, where she spent her childhood days as well as part of her youth. In. 1854 she came to America, crossing the Atlantic in a sail boat. The same year she. was united in marriage to Ole Wierson, who was in the same immigration company, and their first American home was at Lisbon, Ill. In the year 1860 they moved to Roland, Iowa, making the entire trip in a wagon, the motive power being a span of oxen. For a short while they made their home with Mr. and Mrs. Ole Hegland, but soon moved to the O. O. Anderson farm, one half mile west of town, which he had purchased a couple of years previously. Here theye lived, diligently tilling the soil, until 1895, when they retired from active farm life and moved to Roland.
In 1904 Mr. Wierson was summoned to his heavenly home, so Mrs. Wierson survived her husband by almost 15 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Wierson's marriage was blessed with nine children, of which four died in infancy, and Erick Wierson of near Radcliffe died about five-years ago. Those surviving her are, S. 0. Wierson of Radcliffe, Iowa, Wier Wierson of Roland, Mrs. Betsy G. Olson of Belgrade, Minn., and Bernhard Wierson of Hemet, California. Mr. Wier Wierson was the only one of the children present when the summons came to grandma Wierson, but all of the children were present at the funeral.
Mrs. Wierson was a vary conscientious Christian and her joy was in reading the word of God, and talk with Him about the soul's salvation. Her reclining years were mostly spent in studying the Bible and praying to Him for strength to be able to see the true meaning thereof.
Funeral services wtrq held last Saturday from Bergens church and interment took place in the Roland cemetery, Revs G. Smedal and J. B. Rognlein officiating.
