Shirley Jeanne Holden, 86, of Madrid, formerly of Ames, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2016. A memorial service will be held at The Cedars in Madrid on August 3, from 2-3 p.m. Interment will be at Ridgewood Cemetery in Council Bluffs, Iowa, at a later date.

Shirley was born in Grinnell, Iowa, to Foster and Nettie (Knowles) Smiley on February 9, 1930. She was a graduate of Fort Dodge High School. Shirley married Herbert Holden in Fort Dodge on Christmas Eve, 1948.

She is survived by her husband Herbert, her three children: Pamela (Gary) Sejkora of Dubuque, Wendie (Harmon) Ballard of Woodland Park, CO, and Craig Holden of Ames; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; and her brothers Roger (Phyllis) Smiley of Tennessee; Bruce (Jan) Smiley of California.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a son, Mark Holden, and a grandson, Toby Sejkora.
