Marilyn Jean Whannel was born July 30, 1929 to Leonard and Catherine (McCreath) Whannel in Waterloo, Iowa. Marilyn graduated from Jefferson High School in 1947. She married Arnold ‘Bud’ Wierson on April 29, 1950 in Nashua after graduating from the Marshalltown School of Nursing. They farmed their entire life one mile east of Roland and she was a nurse for 30 years at the Nevada Hospital, Bethany Manor and Colonial Manor in Zearing. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Roland. Marilyn enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, crossword puzzles, ceramics, all sports, racing - especially NASCAR with Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Jr. as her favorite drivers. Marilyn loved being with her family.
Marilyn passed away at 86 years of age on June 17, 2016 at Zearing Health Care Center in Zearing, Iowa.
Marilyn is survived by her two sons, Steve (Loretta) Wierson of Oxford, and Craig (Cindy) Wierson of Silverthorne, Colo.; three grandchildren, Eric (Danyel) Wierson, Melissa Wierson Meade, and Christy (Aaron) Hurt; seven great grandchildren, Hannah, Thor, Zoe, Kael, Kole, Reagan and Auston; and a very special family – the Oz and Linda Twedt family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bud, in 1997; her grandson, Cory Wierson; her sister, Maxine Kumalats; and her brother, Donald Whannel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Salem Lutheran Church, 102 S. Main Street, Roland, IA 50236
