DEATH OF LEONA ARMSTRONG
ONLY DAUGHTER OF W. E. ARMSTRONG DIED TUESDAY FUNERAL HELD THIS AFTERNOON
One half hour after the ushering in of the new year, 1918, death claimed Miss E. Leona Armstrong of Court avenue, this city and she was released from a long spell of intense suffering from illness which had covered over a period of seven weeks. Death was due to heart and kidney trouble and other complications and it had been realized by the members of the family and friends for some time that the end was hourly drawing nearer.
During all the long weeks while under the care of her aunt, Mrs. H. M. Waters of Iowa Falls and other members of the family, she had been a patient sufferer and when death came to relieve her suffering it was with a feeling of resignation that she was given up.
Miss Armstrong was the last surviving daughter of William E. Armstrong and she was a native of Nevada being born here on February 20, 1877 the third of the large family of children.
The other daughter died when a small child. Following the death of the mother some twenty years ago, she had been the housekeeper and home-maker for the father and brothers and in all of the she was faithful to the last. She was devoted to her father and the brothers and ever thoughtful of them in their every need and wish. She had never been regarded as strong and had had various sick spells but had always made a quick recovery until the last attack, which soon showed evidence of being her last.
She leaves to mourn the loss of a loving sister and daughter, her father and three brothers. The brothers are Charles E. Armstrong of Nevada, Henry E. Armstrong of Des Moines and Glen C. Armstrong of Nevada. The mother is dead as are four brothers and sisters.
The funeral will be held from the family home on Court avenue Thursday afternoon at two o'clock. The funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Leitch of Central Presbyterian church and Mrs. Leitch and the Nevada chapter of the Daughters of Rebekah of which she had long been an active member, and a recent leader, will hold their ritualistic services at the house after which the interment will be in the Nevada cemetery by the side of her mother and brother--Nevada Evening Journal.
