MRS. GILLESPIE DIED SATURDAY

WELL KNOWN NEVADA WOMAN PASSES AWAY AFTER MUCH SUFFERING. HER LIFE IN OUR MIDST

Mrs. Gillespie for the past six or seven years has been a good deal of a sufferer from ill health, especially during the past year ans up to the past few weeks and days. She has had the benefit of the best medical services that could be procured and the most attentive care, but without avail, and finally in the early evening of Saturday Dec. 15, 1917, like a sleeping child she passed from earthly dwellings into the Father's house of many mansions.

Mrs. Gillespie's maiden name was Alice Belle McGloflin. She was the daughter of Addison and Catherine McGloflin and was born August 18, 1858 in Gallia County, Ohio. As a child she came with her parents to Des Moines, later to Milford township, Story county, an still later in the middle seventies to Nevada. From that time till her death, this city continued her residence.

She was united in marriage with J. F. Gillespie June 6, 1878. She was a woman of substantial worth in the home of which she became a member and took an active and helpful interest in the social and institutional affairs of the city. She was blessed with the gift of song and for years was the leading soprano singer in the choir of the M. E. church of which church she was a member and in whose missionary activities she habitually took such interest as her health and home obligations permitted. She was a member of the Cemetery society, one of the women organizations of the city that has made the resting place of the sacred dust of our death a veritable "city beautiful." As a member of the P. E. O. chapter, the Thimble Club, the order of the Eastern Star, the City Federation and probably some other organizations, she was always ready to do her part to make things pleasant and the out-going influence wholesome. On informal occasions when a home was needed to meet the requirements of some social function, the Gillespies attractive and roomy residence was at the service of the promoters. And over and above all these social qualities and activities she was a good neighbor, friendly and in times of need, ready with helping word and deed. And to be counted a good neighbor for more than a quarter of a century without a break is an achievement of large credit. Mrs. Gillespie was a good wife, mother, neighbor, citizen and will be long and regretfully missed by her many friends and deeply mourned by her family group.

She is survived by her husband, J. F. Gillespie, Nevada; her son, John L. Gillespie, Des Moines; her daughter, Mrs. Verne Oliver, Nevada; her sisters, Mrs. R. B. Harper, Onawa; and Mrs. Mary E. Williams and Miss Mary and by her step-son, N. F. Gillespie, Chehalis, Wash., and her step-daughters, Mrs. C. E. Smith and Mrs. C. G. Wright, Kansas City, Mo.

The funeral will be held at the home Tuesday, 2:30 p. m., and conducted by her pastor, Rev. Mr. Shipman.
