Marjorie M (Brobeil) Grau
October 26, 1920 - June 6, 2016Marjorie Grau died at the age of 95 on Monday June 6th, 2016. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church (610 15th St., Ames, IA) on Thursday, June 9th, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran, burial will follow services in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Marjorie grew up near Lytton, Iowa where her parents, Art and Etta Brobeil, farmed.
After earning her teaching certificate at Buena Vista College, Marjorie taught grades one through eight at a country school in Sac County. In 1941 she married Solon Grau of Newell, Iowa.
From youth until old age, she sang in school and church choirs. Her family is grateful for the summer gardening and canning she did. Her winter quilt-making provided gifts for each grandchild. Her attitude of cheerful optimism touched many people throughout her life.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband Solon and her parents.
Mourning her passing are their five children: Shirley, Ramona, Noel, Roger, and Elizabeth. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.
