Velma Ruth Rolling was born January 31, 1932 to Edward and Beulah (Tukalek) Lukes in Protivin, Iowa. She graduated from Rudolphinum High School in Protivin in 1949 and later graduated from the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis. She met Michael Rolling while working as a radiology technician after he had stepped on a nail. They married December 4, 1952 in Bancroft, Iowa.

Velma enjoyed crocheting, her dogs, reading and anything in the outdoors especially fishing, gardening and hunting. She was also an avid birdwatcher. She loved Iowa State basketball and was a huge pro sports fan, especially football, wrestling and hockey. Velma was a wonderful mother who would do anything for her family and was devoted to her husband, Michael, who passed away in 1999.

Velma passed away at 84 years of age on June 29, 2016 at Rolling Green Village in Nevada, Iowa.

Velma is survived by four children, Monica Soder, Michael Rolling, Mitchel Rolling and Melissa (Yanni Tsichlis) Rolling; her grandchildren, Eraka (Ryan) McCulla and Alex Tsichlis; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her daughter-in-law, Sandra Rolling.

Memorials may be designated to St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 2900 Hoover Avenue, Ames, IA 50010
