James Cable, age 77, of Marshalltown and formerly of Zearing, died Friday, April 29, 2016, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016, at the Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada, with memorial visitation one hour prior to services. Inurnment will be in St. James Cemetery in Colo. Military graveside honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #139.
Born January 17, 1939, in Colo, Iowa, James Joseph Cable was the son of Arthur Jerome and Norma (Duree) Cable. He grew up and received his education in Colo and, in 1959, was united in marriage to Claire Louise Raymond in Boston, Massachusetts. The couple was blessed with four sons: Rick, Steve, David, and Mike.
Jim served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict, then returned to Boston where he was employed in the siding industry until 1986. At that point in his life, Jim made his home in Zearing and worked at the Co-op in Colo, retiring in 2007. In 2008, he became a resident of the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife Claire in 1986; a son, Steve Cable in 2012, and an infant son, James Cable, Jr.; a grandson, Tony Cable; his parents; three sisters, Sylvia Johns, Doris Smith, and Beverly Patterson; and a brother, Bob Cable.
Survivors include three sons, Rick (Julie Spurgeon) Cable of Ankeny, David (Robin Smith) Cable of Colo, and Mike (Theresa) Cable of Seattle, WA; five grandchildren, Tia, Nicole, Angela, Courtney, and Amanda; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, John (Diane) Cable of Arkansas, Jerry Cable of Ames, and Richard Cable of Arkansas; a sister, Susan (Greg) Schlueter of Collins; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Jim and his family.
