Jean Marie Evans was born June 29, 1930 to Leland and Gladys Pauline (Gilmore) Turner in St. Anthony, Iowa. Jean graduated from Marshalltown High School, attended UNI, and then received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Dubuque. Jean and Thomas James Evans were married August 19, 1951. He passed away July 14, 1993. She worked as a teacher for 9 years. Jean married James Redepenning December 30, 2001.

Jean was a member of Chapter KC, P.E.O., Theta Chi, Ames Chapter of Iowa Questers, MGMC Auxiliary, and Ruth Circle at First United Methodist Church. Jean loved reading, taking long walks, family vacations, P.E.O., a good hearty laugh, and the Cyclones. Jean had a great sense of style that was reflected in her home and in her personal life. Jean’s passion for living was most evident in her love for family. She demonstrated that love in her encouragement to see the best in people and to love them unconditionally. Jean will be remembered most for the joy and laughter she shared with all who knew her and the grace she showed to those who needed it most.

Jean passed away at 85 years of age on May 1, 2016 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Jean is survived by her husband, James Redepenning of Ames; her children, Chris (Rich) Exsted of Minneapolis, Minn., Rick (Becki) Evans of East Moline, Ill., Ron (Jane) Evans of Indianapolis, Ind. and Karen (Brad) Strehlow of Ames; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her sisters, Norma (Bill) Speer and Marlene (Clair) Hartwig; and many nieces and nephews.
