From Nevada Representative January 31, 1894
Maxwell.
....One of the saddest events of the winter in our town, was the funeral of Edwin E. John, son of Sam'l John, of Perry, who died at his home in Parry on last Saturday 27th, aged 21 years and 4 months. The family formerly lived in Nevada, the remains reached here at midnight on Sabbath night in charge of a delegation of the train men's Brotherhood, accompanied by four ladies. At 11 a. m. Monday the remains were taken to the C. P. church, which was filled by a congregation of deeply serious people. Very appropriate music was furnished by the untied choirs of the M. E. and C. P. churches. Revs. Curtis and Doty took part in the services, Rev. Ferguson preaching the sermon. He had been sick for sixteen weeks, and most of the time very bad. Mr. John and two of the daughters are sick at the present time, and only three of the family could attend the funeral....
