From Nevada Representative January 24, 1894

Maxwell.

....J. A. Hawkins, the proprietor of our barber shop, died on Wednesday the 17th, after an illness of several weeks, in fact he had been in poor health for quite a long time his trouble being consumption. His age was 39 years. The funeral took place on Friday 19 under the auspices of the Odd Fellows Lodge of this place. The remains were taken to the C. P. church, the choir rendering very fine music. Rev. Curtis read the scriptures and offered prayer. Rev. Ferguson then spoke of the life and character, of the deceased, showing his value, as a citizen. J. W. Maxwell then read the burial service of the Odd Fellows, after which the remains were laid in our cemetery. Mr. H. was a very excellent man, loved and admired by all. He had just completed a very nice home, which he could not live to enjoy. He leaves a wife, but no children. Mrs. H. is a very estimable lady, and has the sympathy of this entire community in her great loss....
