From Nevada Representative January 10, 1894

A Lost Man Found.

It will be remembered that about fair time last fall, there mysteriously disappeared from his home W. H. H. Grove, an old resident of Franklin township. It was beard that he was not in his right mind, and search was made for him far and near, but without success. The sequel has come at last in the discovery of his body in the woods four miles north of Ames and near the old state road from Nevada to Boone. Some boys out hunting Monday came upon his remains, partly skeleton, partly intact and mutilated by hogs or dogs. It was at once assumed that the body was probably that of the lost Mr. Grove, and investigation confirmed the theory. Clothes hanging in a tree were identified as his. A knife near by was also identified as his and had blood rust upon it. A note left in the coat said: "Save my family for I can't". The main fact is evident. A respected citizen wandered off in the woods, wrote a last word for his friends, opened his knife and unbidden crossed the river. A mystery is solved and a suicide regretfully recorded.
