Obituary.

COOK.--John Cook was born Aug. 15, 1829, in Lewis county, central New York, and was the fourth of eight children, five sons and three daughters. He began farming for himself at the early age of fourteen years, and moved to Union township in October, 1852. February 24, 1866 he was married to Miss Lucy Sear, of Clinton, Iowa. Three children, all sons, were born to them, of whom two, Fred and Jasper, resided with him at the time of his demise; the third, George, died of scarlet fever when about eight years of age. Mr. Cook was one of the first pioneers to this township and got out the timber for the stream mill that stands on the bank of the river, and was also one of the number who raised the first liberty pole in Cambridge. He and his family have lived together continuously on the old homestead until his death occurred Friday morning, Dec. 29, 1898, at which time he was 65 years, 4 months, and 14 days of age. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. C. W. Anderson on Sunday afternoon, after which a long procession of relatives, friends, and acquaintances followed his remains to their last resting place in the Cambridge cemetery.--Cambridge Press.
