Obituary.
S. S. Larson was born in Norway 55 years ago next April and emigrated to America when a boy of eight years settling for a time in Illinois. He married Miss Inger Larson March 17th, 1861 and a few months later came to Story City, then known as Fairview. He bought a farm of 120 acres just on the southeast side of town a part of which has been laid off into lots and built upon thus becoming a part of Story City. He has owned over a a mile square of land (640 acres) just outside of town but recently he has disposed of a good share of his farms. Twenty two years ago he became member of the firm of H. Larson & co. in the old town of Fairview and they moved their store building to the present location of S. R. Corneliussen & Co's store in the summer of 1878. The firm name soon changed to Larson and Corneliussen and eight years ago last August he sold a part of his interest to his partner, S. E. Corneliussen, and the remainder to his son, Gehard. Mr. Larson made a trip to Texas for the health of himself and wife some three years ago and two years ago went to California to make it his home but returned there last May broken down in health and that dread disease consumption possibly aided by cancer has done its work. Mr. Larson died at one o'clock New Year's morning, leaving a wife, four sons and three daughters to mourn a good husband and father. Seven children have already gone before him to the better land. He was faithful member of the Lutheran church and will be greatly missed. He was one of the few men who helped to build up this town and was always ready to aid in any worthy public object. He was a member of the council and school board. His funeral occurred on Wednesday, January 3d, attended by a large gathering of friends and relatives.
