NEVADA PIONEER PASSES AWAY

MRS. S. E. HARRISON DIED AT HER DAUGHTER'S HOME EARLY TUESDAY MORNING CAME HERE 1857

Elizabeth Wilcox Harrison the wife of S. E. Harrison passed away Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walter W. Finnie, on Vine street after an illness of several months, which caused her intense suffering. Mrs. Harrison withstood her suffering with remarkable fortitude and her end came peacefully as if in sleep. She had passed the eighty first mile-stone of her life and was recognized as one of the last of the old settlers in this community, having first come to Nevada with her parents in 1857, when a girl of eighteen years.

During all he long residence here she has taken a keen interest in the affairs of the community and the church with which she affiliated and her demise causes sorrow and sympathy from a large number of old an tried friends.

Mrs. Harrison was Elizabeth Wilcox being born in September 1839 in Erie, Penn. With her family they joined the Westward procession in 1841, lingering in Monmouth, Illinois till 1857 when the family migrated to Nevada and first made their home here. Shortly after their arrival, the young lady met Mr. S. E. Harrison who had come to this country earlier and they were married on June 16th, 1861 and made their home here most of the time ever since.

To this union eight children were born, two of whom died in infancy and three sons and three daughters survive their mother, together with fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The immediate family which is left to mourn the loss of the mother are Mrs. May Confare, of Ames; C. B. Harrison of Grey Bull, Wyoming; M. L. Harrison of Great Bend, Kansas; Mrs. Metta Thomas of Effingham, Kansas; S. E. Harrison of Los Angeles, Cal. and Mrs. Della Finnie of this city.

The funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:30 from the home of W. W. Finnie, the funeral being in charge of the Rev. Mr. Innes of the College church of Ames, he having for year been the pastor of the Presbyterian church here of which Mrs. Harrison was a member. The interment was in the family plot at the Nevada cemetery.

Those from out of town who attended the services included Mrs. Confare and her daughter Ruth of Ames, Professor and Mrs. B. M. Harrison of Ames, and Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Harrison of Great Bend, Kansas. The other surviving children were unable to be present because of the long distance which they live away from here.
