LE ROY ROE
LAID AT RESTFriday afternoon Le Roy Roe was laid at rest in the Johnson's Grove, the services being conducted in the same church where he and his wife were attendants a number of years ago and with a large crowd present loving friends and relatives did all in their power to show their respect and love for the young man whose life had been so suddenly terminated by a murderer's bullet.
The services at the home of his father, Mr and Mrs. William Roe, were held in Fernald and then the funeral party moved to the Johnson Grove church where the little building was crowded to the doors with those who wanted to do honor to the young man.
The funeral oration was preached by the Rev. Johnson of Madrid, Ia., a former pastor of the church and music was rendered by a mixed quartette composed of Rev. and Mrs. Johnson, Philip O'Neil and the Rev. Coleman of Colo.
Those who were pall bearers were Dennis Hankins, Fred, Chris and Henry Chitty, William Mead and Jud Stevens all of them cousins of the dead man.
After the church service had been concluded the little band moved to the cemetery near the church where all that was mortal of the sterling young fellow was laid at rest midst a grave almost completely hidden neath a bower of flowers and from all part of the county by those who knew Mr. Roe best.
The tragedy has made a painful and lasting impression on the folks of Fernald who knew Mr. Roe so well where he was born and raised and the business houses of the community closed for two hours during the funeral services:
