June Marie Thorsbakken was born June 20, 1930 to Irwin and Gertie (Selvig) Stenberg in Radcliffe, Iowa. She graduated from Radcliffe High School and attended Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls for one year. June taught at the elementary level near Radcliffe and in Randall before her marriage. June and Charles Thorsbakken were married December 21, 1953 at Pearl Harbor on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. June worked for 13 years as a cashier at the Iowa State University Bookstore, retiring in 1995.
June was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames and was an organist and choir director at a couple of churches where she was a member. She used her talents with music as a teacher of young piano students. Travel was very much enjoyed and included Hawaii, a cruise, and trips to many parts of the United States. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren number many, and to see new life and the talents of these provided much joy and the most happy moments in her life.
June passed away at 85 years of age on March 17, 2016 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
June is survived by her children, Jone (Norm) Longnecker, Sue Philbrook, Tim (Cathy) Thorsbakken and Tom (Karen) Thorsbakken; her grandchildren, Brian Longnecker, Natasha Roach, Chris Thorsbakken, Eric Thorsbakken, Ryan Thorsbakken, Trent Brownrigg, Kaylynne Brownrigg and Kylee Brownrigg; and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; three sisters, Marian, Vivan and Mavis; her son-in-law, Bill Philbrook; and her grandsons, Jeremy Longnecker and Josh Philbrook.
Memorials may be designated to the family.
