From the Nevada Evening Journal
Monday, May 17, 1926

U.S. Alderman, 60, native son of Nevada and local attorney, dropped dead at this home on Seventh street Friday evening about 8:30, after returning from the Indian Creek Country club where he had been playing golf.
Arriving home he complained of feeling rather tired from the afternoon, lay down for a few minutes and then stepped into the kitchen. Miss Louise Klove, sister of Mrs. Alderman, who was alone with him at the time, heard a fall and going to the kitchen found him lying upon the floor and life almost extinct.
She summoned Mrs. Alderman who was at the Conner home next door, and instructing central to send physicians and help was soon at hand, but too late to do any good.
Complications of the heart had caused his death. Mr. Alderman had been in good health an in an examination taken a few weeks before his heart was found to be in the best of condition. Physicians stated that a ruptured coronary artery was probably the cause of his death.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Memorial Lutheran church after which interment was in the Nevada cemetery. The funeral sermon was preached by his pastor Dr. C. N. Swihart and the church was crowded to capacity. The floral offerings were most beautiful.
The choir sang two hymns, both favorites of the deceased and Mrs. D. E. Martin a beautiful solo.
The pall bearers were L. F. Martin, F. E. Hansen, J. L. Larsen, D. L. Harrington, Fred W. Nelson and Karl B. Cessna, selected from among the Memorial Lutheran church congregation.
Besides the relatives and friends from a distance who were here for the service there were many people from various parts of the county to join with the neighbors and townspeople in doing honor to a beloved friend.
Mr. Alderman was one of the prominent sons of Nevada. He was the youngest of the family of Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Alderman, Nevada's pioneer family. Born in this city August 2, 1865, he attended the local school from which he graduated with the class of 1883.
He was married to Miss Nettie Klove, March 25, 1890 and she with their only son, Ralph K. Alderman, now of Oak Park, Ill., is left to mourn a kind husband and loving father.
He was engaged in business for a time in Nevada, but shortly after his marriage disposed of his commercial interests and enrolled as a student in the law school at the State University of Iowa. He graduated from that institution with the class of 1897, being the president of the law class at that time.
He came back to Nevada and at once engaged in the practice of law, continuing until his untimely death. Aside from the practice he had other property and business interests which occupied much of his time.
He had always been active in public life and civic affairs, was identified with the republican activies of the county and district for years and represented Story county in the lower house of the Thirty-eighth general assembly.
He was a member of the Masonic Knights of Pythias and Modern Woodman lodges and during the World war was one of the most ardent workers in the citizen activities of that time. He was always recognized as a leader and his influence was felt whenever he lent his time to a cause.
Of more recent years he had been actively identified with the Lutheran church and had not only been a worker in the local congregation but had been frequently recognized in synodical affairs and had but recently been elected as a lay delegate to the coming National synodical meeting.
In the very sudden death of Mr. Alderman the community received a distinct shock and Mrs. Alderman, the son Ralph and wife, the brother Ed T. Alderman and sister Mrs. Minnie A. Mills, as well as other relatives and near friends, are receiving the most profound sympathy of a wide circle of friends.
