Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Clark H. Nervig was born April 29, 1932 at the home of his parents, Morrill and Maylo Nervig of Slater, Iowa. Clark graduated from Slater High School in 1950. He went to Simpson College after graduation to pursue his passion for baseball. His dreams were put on hold when Clark was drafted to serve his country in the United States Army.

While in the Army, Clark was stationed in Salzburg, Austria. During his stay in Austria, Clark was encouraged by family to make the trek to Norway to research his ancestry. Clark was side tracked from his quest when he met a lovely, young, blond Norwegian named Sigrun Overhus. She later became his bride of 61 years. They moved back to the states and became lifelong residents of Slater. Clark and Sigrun had three children together, Anders, Brian, and Ann Marie, all of Slater.

After returning to Iowa, Clark began working for the Iowa Department of Transportation. Clark also renewed his passion for baseball and began playing for the Slater Nite Hawks. Clark worked in the soil testing lab at the Department of Transportation for 17 years. In 1972, he had the opportunity to purchase Slater Conoco from his father, which he owned until 2006.

Clark enjoyed anything that involved the outdoors or his children and grandchildren. He had a love of golf and baseball. When not on the fairway or ball field, he loved tending to his garden and lawn. He loved watching all his grandchildren participate in all their activities. Clark will be deeply missed by his loving wife, family, and community.

Clark passed away at 83 years of age on Monday, February 15, 2016 at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sigrun Nervig; his sons, Anders Nervig and Brian Nervig; his daughter, Ann Marie (Don) Catus; his grandchildren, Natasha, Abby, Spencer, and Annika, all of Slater; his brother, Paul (Pauline) Nervig of Simi Valley, Calif.; and his sister-in-law, Ragna (Ole) Molaug of Byrne, Norway. Also surviving are eight nieces and nephews.
