Ames.

....The community was shocked by the intelligence received last Sunday morning that an appalling and probably fatal accident occurred to one of our citizens in Des Moines about 4 A. M. of that day. It has formerly been at the Keeley Institute receiving a treatment returned there for a few days more, going down Saturday afternoon. Sunday morning his wife was sent for to come at once and later in the day it was ascertained that he was probably fatally injured. Nothing reliable was known here until Monday afternoon, when the train brought the sorrowing friends and the remains of the Doctor to Ames. He had retired to his room in the Institute Saturday night about 10 o'clock apparantly in health. Sunday morning early he was seen to climb out of his window to the third story, and parties on the street told him to go back. He did so, but soon returned to the window and let himself down held by the hands, a moment and then with spring from the building fell to the pavement 30 feet below. Help was summoned; he was carried to Cottage Hospital; physicians called and everything that could be was done for his comfort. His wife was recognized when she came but he was not able to speak. His father and sisters reached Des Moines Monday just after noon and the Doctor died at about 2:30 o'clock. His funeral will be in the M. E. church Wednesday 2 P. M.....

Mr. E. B. Plumb, of Ames leaped from a third story window of the Keeley Institute at an early hour Sunday morning, alighting on the pavement with fatal consequences. The leap was the result of delerium induced by intoxicating liquors or chloral. Both legs and his jaw were broken and injuries to internal organs received. He lived, however, until Monday afternoon. His body was brought to Ames the same evening and his funeral will be conducted there to-day. He was 31 years old and leaves a wife and two children.
