From Nevada Representative December 2, 1891

A case of murder and suicide occurred in a Marshlltown boarding house early Saturday morning. D. C. Thomas, a employe in the packing house, has boarded for a year with John Hockridge, the relations between the two being amicable. Thomas had been suffering from illness which kept him from work and in addition from trouble occasioned by separation from his wife and had become excited by nightly attendance of Salvation army meetings. About two oclock a boarder in the next room heard exclamations from Thomas that led to belief something was wrong; and reported to Hockridge, who went to investigate. Exactly what occurred after he entered the room is not known, but Thomas soon fired five shots, the second of which was fatal to Hockridge. The murderer then removed the empty shells from his revolver, put a loaded one in it and shot himself.
