Wm. H. Gifford was born at Bergue, N. Y., August 27thm, 1827. He came to Iowa in June, 1855, and located in Iowa Centre, Story county, where he lived until his death, October 17, 1891.
Mr. Gifford was very congenial and kind hearted, a good neighbor, always ready to do favors and held the needy. He was a very acceptable member of the I. O. G. T. and beloved by all member of the order at home and those who knew him abroad. During his sickness he accepted Christ, by faith, as his personal Saviour, and obtained a very clear evidence of his pardon and acceptance by Christ. He obtained a lively hope of life eternal beyond, His death was a glorious triumph.
The funeral took place Sunday, October 18th, at the Evangelical church at Iowa Centre. J. E. Stauffacher, pastor, officiated, assisted by Rev. R. A. Ferguson of Maxwell. The I. O. G. T. of Iowa Center and a large number from neighboring lodges led the large procession to the cemetery where he was laid away to await the resurrection morn.
